The Black Brant is a family of modular, suborbital rocket systems that provide reliable and low-cost access to space. Magellan's Black Brant is the world’s leading suborbital rocket. More than 1,000 have been manufactured for customers worldwide, and its overall reliability is demonstrated at 98.5%. Black Brant rockets are based on a building block approach and are available in either single or multi-stage configurations. The Black Brant 5 motor is the core vehicle for all configurations. As performance requirements increase, lower or upper stage booster motors are integrated to achieve higher performance. This approach allows the Black Brant to carry payloads from 70 to 850 kgs to altitudes ranging from 150 to 1500 km, while maintaining reliability and cost effectiveness. The following payload and rocket vehicle subsystems can be included to accomodate various mission scenarios: forward ejecting nose fairing
parachute recovery (including water recovery)
payload instrumentation and booms
opening and closing payload doors
attitude control systems
payload separation systems
guidance systems
stage ignition systems
despin systems
thrust termination systems Magellan also offers an improved payload architecture support system called STARS. STARS reduces overall missions cost and risk by replacing semi-customized hardware with standardized, flight-qualified, off-the-shelf components.
Magellan’s Rockets and Space business is staffed by suborbital rocket experts and offer a range of mission support services including: mission feasibility and definition
rocket vehicle and payload design and fabrication
experiment integration
environmental testing
mission analysis
launch services
project management
